Big Give Day

PAST PROJECTS

Over the years, Angeles Crest has looked at how to improve the camper experience.

While there is an endless list of things that can be added or upgraded, these are some of the special projects that rose to the top of that list.

Because we are a 501(c)3 non-profit camp, it would be impossible for these projects to become a reality without the generous outpouring of support from our incredible donors. We are so incredibly grateful to every single one of our donors who are helping create great mountain-top experiences with eternal impact. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Take a look at where your donations have gone in recent years.

2024 – Climb It Change

GOAL MET!

In 2024, the Climb-It Change Campaign was launched. The goal was to raise $66,000 for a new Low Ropes Hexagon, Bouldering Walls and upgrading our current climbing wall with automatic belay controllers. Because of your incredible generosity, we raised $72,000!

We didn’t waste any time installing the new activities. The auto belay units were first put to use in June and the Low Ropes Hexagon course (since named the Sycamore Challenge Course) was installed in September.

The total cost of this experience turned out to be higher than previously estimated, partially due to the need of adding a retaining wall adjacent to the 40 foot wide Sycamore Challenge Course. While we raised enough money to cover the higher cost, it means that we will have to postpone the installation of the bouldering wall until we raise more funds. Luckily, the kids are absolutely loving the two new activities and don’t seem to mind.

2022 – Coolest Summer Ever

(Amphitheater Sails)

GOAL MET!

Back in the olden days, campers dreaded sitting on the hot seats of the amphitheater after baking in the hot, summer sun. That meant that the amphitheater was really only used after the sun went down (and for a few minutes in the middle of the week to get those picture perfect group camp photos with a minimal amount of complaints).

But, thanks to our amazing donors, we received $43,188 for during the Coolest Summer Ever campaign back in 2022! This even exceeded our goal of $42,000 to build shade coverings over the amphitheater…making it the coolest summer ever!

2021 – We’re On A Roll
(Dining Room Bathrooms)

GOAL MET!

Thanks to everyone that supported the “We’re On A Roll” #1 and #2 campaigns, campers are now enjoying the centrally located restrooms at the dining hall. It’s hard to believe that it was the end of 2021 when the project was first announced and was finally completed in the summer of 2023.

In spite of all the setbacks like…

  1. Replacing the entire septic system in 2022
  2. Seeing Dave sitting on a giant roll of TP in scuba gear
  3. Construction delays due to the road closure in winter 2023
  4. Doing all the construction without interrupting our summer camps

… we never lost faith that it would get done.

Gone are the days of walking “all the way” back to the cabins and missing out on an intense volleyball game or losing out on seconds at breakfast.

We had a big goal of $120,000 to reach in order to complete this special project, but you surpassed that with the final total coming in at $121,200!

Thank you to all who contributed!

2019 – Big Chill, Big Thrill

(AC & Camp Scholarships)

GOAL MET!

Before the summer of 2019, our Chapel and Dining Hall was extremely hot during those California heat waves – creating a distraction for our campers. Some groups even decided to switch to other camps that offered A/C. We knew that we had to make it a priority to bring the big chill to our main meeting areas.

Because of your incredible giving, we met our $42,000 goal and were able to install fans and AC in the chapel and dining room which now can cool off our campers every summer!

And, what good is having that new A/C, if kids can’t come to camp because it is too cost prohibitive for their family? We wanted to make sure that any kid that wanted to attend camp, would be able to, regardless of their ability to pay. Reaching that $42,000 goal gave us the ability to give a big thrill to over 225 kids with scholarships to pay for camp!

2018 – Dirt to Turf

GOAL ALMOST MET!

If any of you have converted your landscaping to be drought tolerant, you know how expensive putting in a turf lawn is. So, in 2018, when we put together the Dirt to Turf campaign, we knew it would be a big challenge with a goal of $135,000!

And we had the BIGGEST outpouring of generosity from you! We were able to raise $120,800, which was more than double what we received the previous year. Now the kids (and adults) are able to enjoy activities on the green, lush lawn in the open space in front of the dining hall.
