Angeles Crest Update: News and Stories from Our Community

Storms, Surprises, and Smiles: A Family’s Winter Camp Adventure.

“I have been both exhausted and busy playing catch-up all week after spending last weekend at Angeles Crest, but I couldn’t let another day go by without sending a message to you all to express my gratitude for each of you in enabling me to take my kids to camp!

They all had an amazing time, as I knew they would, and it was a particularly special experience for me to be able to be there with them.

So much of it was just as I remembered from my time there as a youth, especially how much easier it is to feel close to God and dwell in Him there on the mountain, than it is in the city.

It was really neat to be able to find myself and my sister in the old Work Crew and Staff photos in the stairwell down to the game room from the chapel, and it was just such a blessing to be able to see my kids being immersed in the Word and the worship music.

What a fun surprise to see Dave up there on Saturday, too!

All of the camp staff were wonderful to interact with, but I am especially grateful to each of you for your part in making winter camp reality for my kids.

They are all hoping to be back at Angeles Crest for summer camp, and my daughter and I are looking at signing up for the Mother Daughter Retreat, too!

Praying God’s continued blessings over each of you and Angeles Crest.”

Here are a few positive spiritual responses by campers that our Youth Winter Camp leaders shared…

  • [Church group time] was super impactful for the kids and I think they all grew individually
  • The kids were touched during worship and sermon, and lives were changed this weekend.
  • After Addie was baptized she ran back to the cabin to get warmed up. Our girls all rushed in and just bear hugged her one by one. Addie was soaking wet still and our girls were all in their clothes getting wet too, but they didn’t mind. They were so overwhelmed with joy for their friend’s decision that they had to show her some love right then and there.
  • I’m an introvert. As is my daughter. God is using your staff to open up our hearts to Him and helping us break out of our defensive shells.
  • I think the coolest thing is that two of our students made decisions to get baptized – both of which don’t come from “christian” homes!

Meet Ryan Morrison

Maintenance Manager

Ryan grew up in the Los Angeles area and has a deep-rooted connection with Angeles Crest Christian Camp. As a former camper and volunteer, he now finds himself grateful for the opportunity to join the full-time staff as the maintenance manager. Ryan and his wife of nearly 23 years, Lori are parents to Olivia, 17, and Zachary, who is soon to be 14.

After attending college at Hope International University, Ryan and Lori both began their ministry journeys and got married while serving as missionaries in Mexico with Amor Ministries. Ryan’s professional background spans various construction-related fields, including general residential and commercial construction, custom cabinetry, and oilfield drilling operations. Lori’s professional background has focused mainly on education and nonprofit roles. She’s worked with university students and faculty, she’s taught in public and private high schools, and led and consulted in the areas of marketing and communications, fundraising, development, and donor relations for a variety of non-profits as a consultant and as a staff member. Lori is also a speaker and workshop leader, for both ministry and professional events.

Both Ryan and Lori have served in many roles within their local church family.

In 2016, we began our family’s ministry journey in Christian camping serving at several camps around southern California and most recently Texas. Olivia is excited to join Crew this summer and Zachary is looking forward to living in the mountains again! Our family is excited to be joining the Angeles Crest team, and hope to call this place home for a very long time.”

Would You Pray for the Summer Camp Season?

We currently have two dates open that we are looking for churches/guests groups to book for summer. Please pray that God would connect us with a church or group that is looking for a place to hold their summer camp.

Also, we have a few summer staff positions to fill, please pray that God would provide amazing summer staff leaders for those positions!
