Angeles Crest Update: News & Stories from Our Community

November 2024

When November rolls around each year, it’s hard not to reflect on all there is to be thankful for. One of the things we here at Angeles Crest are thankful for is you! Thank you to all our supporters, volunteers, donors, campers, prayer warriors and everyone that is part of the Angeles Crest family. I hope God blesses you during this Thanksgiving season. God has certainly blessed Angeles Crest Christian Camp in countless ways since 1948 and here are just a few recent examples of how God has been working.

New Program to Reach More Campers

This past spring, Angeles Crest officially launched a new Outdoor Science Program (OSP) led by Outdoor Ed Coordinator Beth Biorkman. The program was created to reach Christian schools in the Southern California region and is geared toward 5th-7th graders. Our mission is to provide an environment of hands-on outdoor learning that promotes personal and spiritual relationship growth. Many of the kids have never been to camp, and we love that Angeles Crest gets to be their first mountain top experience!

The first OSP camp was held in May, where we hosted students from Glenoaks Christian School. Glenoaks principal, Mrs. Tirzah Vasquez says:

“Angeles Crest Christian Camp was the perfect ending to our school year. Students are still raving about their experience visiting last [school] year. I think the lesson on fire was most popular. I was amazed to see students come out of their comfort zone with different activities such as archery and rock climbing. The camp counselors were informative, enthusiastic and engaging. They incorporated the perfect combination of learning and fun. As a staff member, I enjoyed the bonfire worship, prayer hike, and staff lodging. All in all it was a wonderful experience!”

Campers are able to unplug in nature, learn with hands-on lessons like Astronomy, Botany and Mammalogy as well as enjoy the spiritual aspects of camp. You can learn more about what OSP has to offer by visiting the website.

Angeles Crest has spots available in Spring 2025.

Winter Camp is Heating Up

Angeles Crest won’t be hosting winter campers until January, but we have already been blessed by the fact that camp is 50% full! We’re halfway there! That does mean that anyone still looking to sign up better hurry before spots are gone. It is going to be an amazing time on the mountain and you don’t want to miss out.

Take a look at this testimony from a past winter camp written by Pastor Francis Lazaro that demonstrates the power of camp at Angeles Crest…

“Isaiah is a senior in our youth group and recently started coming on and off ever since the summer. However, he previously had admitted that he didn’t really believe in God at all and he was just coming because his girlfriend at the time was coming to our youth group. Since his girlfriend was going to camp, he decided to go as well. But when he came he had a supernatural experience with God and surrendered his life to God!

NOT ONLY DID HE SURRENDER HIS LIFE TO CHRIST, HE APPLIED TO WORK AT ANGELES CREST IN THE SUMMER AND GOT THE JOB! It’s amazing! GLORY TO GOD, and so thankful for Angeles Crest’s faithfulness.”

This is the power of camp. Worship a mighty God for a weekend, then get back to your community and BE REAL in your walk with the Lord for everyone to see.

For Youth Camp taking place January 24-26 and February 5-7 for grades 6-12, take a look at more details here.

Let’s not forget about the incredible Preteen Camp for grades 3-6 on February 21-23 and February 28-March 2. Take a look at those details here.

Exciting Upgrade at Singing Pines

After many years of neglect culminating in 2023’s record snowfall, the roof of the dining hall at Singing Pines was in dire need of work. According to Executive Director Dave Crouse, it was unlikely the roof would survive one more winter season. Thankfully, the roof was replaced at the end of October and looks fantastic. We can now rest assured that come spring, there won’t be a new unintentional skylight in the dining hall.

This was no small job. It took a full week with a roofing contractor with a team of a dozen workers, a crane and two flatbed trucks to get the job done. And, if that sounds like it was expensive… it was. Thankfully, God provided as He always does. Just one week after the roof was finished, Angeles Crest was blessed by some unexpected donations which covered the cost of the big project. Praise God!

Thank you so much to our generous donors who help keep camp going so we can reach future generations!

For those of you like me, who may not know, Singing Pines was the neighboring camp previously owned by the Girl Scouts for many years. In 2001, Angeles Crest bought the camp with plans of expanding in the future. Currently, summer campers use the lake on the property for fun free time recreation, like kayaking and fishing. The property also houses two staff families. Angeles Crest also stores some of their large equipment and vehicles, which don’t fit on the main property. But, this is just the beginning. Angeles Crest has big plans for Singing Pines, and we hope to one day expand our ability to reach even more campers.

Prayer Requests

We are so incredibly thankful for our Leadership and past, present and future Board Members at Angeles Crest. It may sound cliche, but it is true that without them, camp wouldn’t exist. Could you pray for our team in the coming year? There are several openings coming up on our Board of Directors that will need to be filled in the coming months as well. Please pray for God to lead the right people to join us in our vision to reach 10,000 campers every year.

Happy Thanksgiving!
