For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 100:5

2023 BY THE NUMBERS

The start of 2023 was crazy. Angeles Crest started the year with the largest blizzard in 25 years, which caused so much damage that CalTrans was forced to close the only road to camp for repair work through the summer.

Although all winter and spring camps had to be canceled, the incredible mountain top staff made sure that campers returned for summer by escorting every single vehicle up the last part of the mountain for 10 weeks! Summer camps wouldn’t have been possible without their dedication.

It also wouldn’t have been possible without the faithfulness of donors like you.

Thankfully, not all of 2023 was such a challenge. In October, Angeles Crest celebrated the crazy milestone of 75 years of ministry at The Reagan Library with an historic anniversary gala. Guests were encouraged by the words of keynote speaker, Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains, Fireproof).

The evening was a joyous reunion of 350 people that included past and current staff, counselors, church leaders and even campers from as far back as 1948! How crazy is that? We remembered former Executive Director, Don Leicht, who went to be with the Lord in April 2023, by announcing the renaming of the chapel after him.

Plans for a new meeting room and dining hall that can hold 350 were on display. This new building will open up more ministry opportunities and accelerate our goal of serving 10,000 campers every year. Thanks to everyone that attended and donated to the fundraising efforts, Angeles Crest raised $460,000 toward our goal!

It’s clear 2023 was one of the craziest years in the camp’s history. Thanks to God’s unwavering faithfulness, we ended the year on a high note and we can’t wait to see what this year brings.

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It)

Thanks to everyone that supported the “We’re On A Roll” #1 and #2 campaigns, campers are now enjoying the centrally located restrooms at the dining hall. It’s hard to believe that it was the end of 2021 when the project was first announced and was finally completed this past summer.

In spite of all the setbacks like…

  1. Replacing the entire septic system in 2022
  2. Seeing Dave sitting on a giant roll of TP in scuba gear
  3. Construction delays due to the road closure in winter 2023
  4. Doing all the construction without interrupting our summer camps

… we never lost faith that it would get done.

Gone are the days of walking “all the way” back to the cabins and missing out on an intense volleyball game or losing out on seconds at breakfast.

We couldn’t have done it without you.

If you were thinking you would love to see the new bathrooms in person, you can! Join us for one of the two Volunteer Workdays on May 11th and 18th.
